Bomb blast kills 6, 11 others injured in Gombe



The explosion is said to have occurred at about 7:25pm on Friday, January 16, at the Arawa market near the Gombe State University.


A bomb blast in Gombe State has killed six people and left 11 others injured, according to reports.
The explosion is said to have occurred at about 7:25pm on Friday, January 16, at the Arawa Market near the Gombe State University.
“It was a suicide bombing. Six people were killed including the bomber and 11 others were injured. We evacuated them to the hospital,” Saidu Ahmed Minin, the head of operation of the National
Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the state, told AFP.
A witness, Idris Babandada also said:
“The bomber went into the crowd of people waiting to recharge their telephones and then set off the explosive. The explosion shook the whole neighbourhood.”
However, a resident of the area reportedly told news platform, The Cable that more than 15 people had died in the blast.
An earlier bombing had occurred in the Kasuwan Mata area of Gombe on January 13 leaving one person dead.
