Liverpool Ticket prices skyrocket following gerrad's Retirement Annoucement

Steven Gerrard will wave one last goodbye to the Liverpool faithful later this season, when he plays his final home game at Anfield against Crystal Palace on May 16. For fans wanting to see the notorious footballer don Liverpool’s infamous colors one last time, however, it’ll come at a cost.
Gerrard announced earlier today that he will leave the Liverpool F.C. at the conclusion of the season following the expiration of his contract in the summer. His sights will then likely shift to Major League Soccer in America and rumors have already speculated that he will play for the Los Angeles Galaxy, New York red bulls or
the expansion New York City Fc,though the star player has said that he could never imagine the possibility of playing his beloved club in an international game come next season. No matter where the 34-year-old ends up next season, however, his last stop in Liverpool will pack out Anfield and demand for tickets has soared in the hours following his announcement.
Though still more than four months away, the May 16 matchup against Crystal Palace has already seen tickets listed for as high as €617.50 on secondary market websites. Listed as “behind the goal” seats, those tickets normally sell for €39 and max out at €43 on the primary market, marking a price premium of nearly 1500% for tickets to Gerrard’s last English Premier League Game in Liverpool.
Ticket prices have jumped to new highs for the mid-May game, but fans have discovered a way to beat the secondary ticket market through travel company Thomas Cook, which offers hotel accommodations and tickets to the game for the price of €195, though tickets have yet to be announced on-site just yet. If the company were to follow through with their speculative plan and advertise such an option, that price would be €20 less than Liverpool’s penultimate home game against QPR on May 2.
Thomas Cook has announced that fans should keep a watchful eye on its Twitter page for upcoming details on ticket and hotel deals focused around the game, though many die-hard Liverpool fans have been quick to point out the company’s close affiliation with the football club. There is an assumption that Liverpool will invest many of its tickets for the game into Thomas Cook in an effort to turn additional revenue through local hotels, marketing for the “out-of-town” guest who will undoubtedly need a place to stay in the days prior and following the game.
It’s likely that ticket prices will only continue to soar on the secondary market as the game draws closer. However, the May 16 matchup won’t be Gerrard’s final Premier League game. That will come one week later against Stoke City, where Liverpool will face the Staffordshire-based team at Britannia Stadium on May 24. Though not a hometown farewell for Liverpool’s skipper, fans in Stoke-on-Trent can also expect ticket prices to climb steadily on the secondary market when he makes his final visit in late-May.
